FRANCIS HOUSE HOSPICE
Francis House was opened in 1991, it was the fifth children’s hospice to be built in the UK and at that
time, sick children, along with their families, went to Francis House for support and care from all over the North West of England,Scotland and Ireland.
Francis House is now one of forty Hospices located in the UK. That said, in 2009 the hospice had
over 200 sick children and their families using its facilities, hence the Trustees recognized that they would have to grow to meet
the increasing needs. In 2010 ‘Francis Lodge’ was opened to accommodate care for teenagers and young adults.
The word ‘hospice’
may have a sad and possibly frightening meaning, but the word originated from “a place for rest and refreshment” and this is just
part of what Francis House offer to their sick children and their respective families.
